Buying a Soccer Jersey as a Gift: How to Get It Right

The safest soccer jersey gift is a Fan Version (the relaxed, standard fit) of the person's team, in their usual T-shirt size, without a name printed on it. That combination is the most forgiving if you guess the size slightly wrong, and an unused, unprinted shirt can be returned within 30 days of delivery if it doesn't fit. Order at least three weeks before the date.

If you know the team, the size and the spelling of their name, you can be more ambitious. Here's how to make each decision.

1. Pick the team (carefully)

Football loyalties are serious. A shirt from the wrong club, especially a rival, is worse than no shirt at all. If you're not sure, look for clues: a mug, a scarf, a phone case, the team they watch on weekends. If they follow a national team, a World Cup or retro shirt from a famous tournament is a safe and well-liked choice.

2. Choose the version

  • Fan Version: relaxed fit, easy to wear. The best choice when you're guessing the size.
  • Player Edition: slim, match-style fit. Great for someone who knows they like it, or for framing.
  • Retro: a classic design from a famous season, often the most meaningful gift for an older fan.
  • Kids kit: shirt and shorts together, sized by number and height.

3. Guess the size safely

  1. Borrow a T-shirt they wear often and measure it flat across the chest.
  2. Compare it with the chart on the product page, or our size chart in inches and cm.
  3. If you're between sizes, go up one. A slightly roomy shirt still gets worn; a tight one doesn't.
  4. For children, ask a parent for their height, not their age, and size up if they're near the top of a range.

4. Name and number, or not?

A name makes a lovely personal gift. On products that offer it, you can add up to 12 characters and two digits for free, with a preview. But personalised shirts can't be returned, so only add printing if you're confident about the size and the spelling. A good compromise: their own name and their birthday or age as the number, which never goes out of date.

5. Order in time

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days, and standard US shipping takes 4–11 business days after dispatch, so most orders arrive within 7–14 business days of being placed. Printed shirts can take a little longer. For birthdays, order three weeks ahead. Around the holidays, give it longer: carriers are busier and delivery times can stretch. Shipping is free on all US orders, and you'll get tracking by email.

Gift ideas by person

  • The die-hard fan: this season's home shirt, or a retro shirt from their club's greatest season.
  • The collector: a final shirt for framing; see our guide to framing a jersey.
  • The player: training wear or a long-sleeve shirt for cold evenings.
  • The child: a kids kit with their name on the back, if you know their size.
  • The casual fan: a national team shirt, which works whoever they support at club level.

If it doesn't fit

Unused, unworn shirts in their original condition and packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery under our Refund Policy. Keep the packaging until they've tried it on.
